The synopsis for this film reads, “When Olive Pappadopoulous, 35, flees Cape Town for Greece to mend a broken heart, she is met with hostility from the local villagers until she befriends a 7-year-old refugee who teaches her how to live "The Good Life." and wow, is that the understatement of the year. I love how that summary is written; it tells you what you need to know without giving away anything significant from this spectacular film.
I can’t overstate this enough; this is a fantastic film and was a joy to watch. While the film is classified as a drama, there are a lot of comedy elements in it as well. I think that’s what makes it so magical. Not to mention a friendship between a 35-year-old and a seven-year-old (and no, it’s not weird, it's just a sweet friendship.) The movie could've very quickly fallen into an almost Hallmark-like trap, thankfully though it took the high road and focused more on the character building and the story in front of them than taking the easy way out.
I was impressed with how beautiful the film was; the location shots seemed right out of a classic story with a lot of attention to detail. The entire cast sold the film; each played a crucial role in making the story a whole. Writer/Director Bonnie Rodini makes quite the impression with her first feature film. She has a rich history of being a casting director that shines in this movie; it shows how vital casting is to a movie.
The film would be perfect for someone who isn’t a big fan of subtitles but is trying to broaden their horizons a bit, the film is mainly in English, but there are subtitles throughout in some scenes.
Thanks to Level 33 Entertainment and Dominion3 PR for the opportunity to screen this beautiful film.
